Wheel spacers and wheel adaptersWhen a car rolls out of the factory, the wheels are always neatly mounted under the bodywork. However, many of us like to have the wheels stick out a little. This gives your car a more aggressive appearance. To achieve this, you can use wheel spacers. These rim accessories are in fact nothing more than round blocks of steel that are mounted between the wheel hub and rim. The use of a spacer in combination with a good rim will undoubtedly make your car stand out on the road. |
Benefits of spacersA wheel spacer, or track spacer, literally widens the track width of your car. This not only offers advantages for the appearance of your car, it can also be of practical added value. For example, wheel spacers make room for thicker brake calipers and wider tires. In addition, your roadholding will improve with wheel spacers because there is less weight transfer with a wider track. |

What should you pay attention to when purchasing track extenders?Wheel spacers can be applied to almost any car. We have listed a number of important points for you to pay attention to.
|
Length of the screw Take into account the length of the screw on which the spacer is mounted. Are you going to mount a large spacer? Then it is advisable to also use longer screws. After all, you have less thread left. |
Hub rings Apply hub rings if necessary. This is often not necessary with narrow spacers, but highly recommended with thicker track wideners. A hub ring ensures that the widener is better secured and the wheel is better held in place. |
Space Do you want to continue using the same rim and do you not want to buy new screws? Then it is important to measure how much space you have left on the screw. Based on this, you can determine what the maximum width of the track spacer could be. Also pay attention to the space in the wheel arch. After applying the spacers, the wheel must not touch the wheel arch under any circumstances. This can of course be dangerous. |
General periodic inspection (APK in the Netherlands) The APK regulations stipulate that the tires may not protrude more than three centimeters beyond the mudguard and that the track width may not deviate more than 2% from the factory settings. This is a point that must be checked as standard during the APK. We advise to adhere to this. |
Wheel adapters are a nice alternativeAre you not keen on using track spacers, but would you still like to create a widening effect? ??Then wheel adapters are a great alternative. An adapter normally ensures that you can mount a rim with a different bolt pattern on your car. The minimum width of an adapter is always 20 millimetres, but there are also versions that are a lot wider. By using a wide wheel adapter, you widen your track and you can mount rims with a different bolt pattern. Two birds with one stone. |
